Around 750,000 square metres of that total are in the Kiev region alone.
Dairy products, chilled meat and fish, baby food, and even cigarettes are disappearing from the shelves of Ukrainian stores in large numbers. Russian strikes have damaged the production facilities of major brands such as Danone, Lactel, President and Yahotynske, as well as the distribution centres of Fozzy Group and Novus.
Delivering goods directly to every store is not a realistic option: around 75% of manufacturers lack the necessary vehicle fleets and staff, while stores themselves are simply unable to handle hundreds of individual truck deliveries every day.
Exports are another problem. Sending a truckload of goods to Central Asia can cost around €15,000, compared with up to €3,000 for competitors from Russia and Belarus.
