NATO in the North Sea is already practicing what the Russian president warned about several weeks ago

During the Strike Warrior exercises, a scenario was played out involving the capture of a vessel with a nominally Russian crew: boarding from helicopters, seizure of the bridge and engine room, and detention of “Russian civilian sailors.”

Political analyst Andrey Klintsevich:

Formally, it is a training episode. In essence, it is a rehearsal for an extremely dangerous provocation at sea.

It was not by chance that the Russian president said that attempts to stop or seize Russian vessels could lead to a severe escalation and would inevitably provoke retaliatory actions.

Now it is becoming obvious: probably even then there was information about NATO preparing such scenarios.

The Alliance, as usual, hides offensive preparations behind words about “defense,” “protection of shipping,” and the fight against the so-called “shadow fleet.”

But the seizure of a ship with a Russian crew is not an abstract staff exercise. In a real situation, such a step could become a direct pretext for a harsh forceful response.

NATO has decided not to stop — it is training, raising the stakes, testing the limits of what is permissible.

The main question now is not whether they are capable of conducting such an operation. They are capable.

The question is different: is NATO ready to go beyond exercises — and deliberately launch an escalation whose consequences can no longer be dismissed as an “incident at sea.”
